The Not So YellowBrick Road to Midgetville

Welcome back Delco faithful. I have been doing some things and have not been able to blog as much, but I know why you are really here. You want to know the truth about Midgetville. Some of you may already know. Other Delco faithful think it is a farce. Meanwhile others think it is a wild misunderstanding. I am here to tell you that Midgetville is real.

Back in high school, the other Delco kids at my school threw out a challenge to see who would be the first to find “Midgetville”. Allegedly one of the mom’s of a friend had found it as a kid and she was hush on its exact location. Rumor and Weird Pennsylvania both had it existing in Ridley. Of course we started looking at Nifty Fifty’s and of course that just led to Burgers, Fries and some banging shakes.

Back to the drawing board. We met at a buddy’s house with a huge atlas I borrowed from my grandfather. Yeah Remember the days when only Map Quest was a thing? Yeah it was primitive but it was a start. We kept hearing that this so called “Midgetville” was right across from Taylor Hospital. That’s when my Buddy’s mom overheard. “Taylor Hospital, you are on the right track but if you’re just looking on the road, you are never going to find it. That is all I will say.” WE HAD SO MANY QUESTIONS. She was there? It is real? Where? She would only confirm that she was there and that it is real. We took off for Taylor Hospital. From there we spent hours driving by 2-3 times a month to no avail. We started thinking she had us on this wild goose chase so we would not be partaking in the great Delco pastime of drinking in the woods with all of our friends.

I WILL NOT GIVE THE EXACT LOCATION: I WILL DROP SOME CLUES TO HOW TO GET THERE. PLEASE RESPECT THEIR PRIVACY AND KNOW IT IS A HUGE FINE FOR TRESPASSING.

That is when we had an idea. Let’s get out of the car and go on foot. We parked at a local business and bought some gum so we didn’t get towed. We took off on foot and ended up coming to a creek. We were this far and no creek was stopping us. We cut through the creek and ended up in a parking lot. As we climbed the parking lot wall we came to a small road and walked right past Midgetville. We ended up in a regular Ridley Neighborhood and started to make our way back. That is when we found it. 6-7 homes that are just way smaller than normal. We were stoked. We took Photos and made our way as quickly as we could and back to our vehicle. Of course we had the bragging rights. Now, I must say I was desperately disappointed. It is a normal neighborhood. Now land of oz. No yellow brick road. Just shorter doors and lower windows.

Rumors of Why:

  1. Allegedly this neighborhood was created post Wizard of Oz for members of the Munchkins who sought privacy.
  2. Many of the homes are still owned and lived in by people who are a bit shorter.
  3. Privacy was needed after the movie due to the popularity.
  4. Cars we saw all were adjusted for people who were shorter than 5′

It is in this picture. That is all I will say.
