What the fuck is Chuckie Two Trades Doing? Right now, I don’t see the master plan.
Chuck sent fan favorite Radko Gudas to our division rival, the Washington Capitals, for Matt Niskanen. The kicker is that we kept 30% of Gud’s salary. So not only are we going to watch this man take a run at our best players about 6 times a year, we are paying him to do so.
Then, he bought out Andrew MacDonald’s last year, on a fucking terrible contract.
Then yesterday, Chuck pulls the ultimate brain buster. The Flyers traded a 2nd round pick this year, and a 3rd round pick next year, for 32-year-old right-handed defenseman Justin Braun.
Justin Braun was drafted 201st overall in 2007 by the San Jose Sharks. He proceeded to play four seasons at UMass Amherst, then bounced up and down out of the AHL, until becoming a mainstay on the Sharks’ strong defense. I don’t hate the pickup of Braun for the Flyers, but there’s something I really don’t get:
Yesterday, Jacob Trouba was traded to the Rangers for a first-round pick and a throw-away defenseman. You know that the Flyers have? The 11th overall pick and throw away defenseman. You’re telling me Winnipeg wouldn’t want the 11th overall pick and a Sam Morin or a Robert Hagg? Fuck, even a Mark Friedman? You were JUST on the phone with Kevin Cheveldayoff about Kevin Hayes! Maybe throw in a “Hey what about Trouba for the 11th and this monster I have in the AHL?
I like the pickup of Braun and Niskanen, except that they are both 32-year-old right-handed defensemen. I just feel like we could have gotten more.
