Spring Training is supposed to be a time of excitement and hope for the upcoming season in baseball, but some very unfortunate news has come out of Red Sox camp in Fort Myers.
Boston Globe writer and Red Sox media staple, Nick Cafardo, has passed away Thursday after suffering a heart attack while covering the team in Florida.
Nick Cafardo, our widely respected baseball columnist, died Thursday in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 62.

This is extremely sad news for everyone up in Boston and nationally in the world of sports reporting. For all the shit that Boston sports media members get for being negative and unbearable at times, Cafardo was never one to come under fire. He’s been covering the MLB nationally as well as the Red Sox and Patriots for 30 years and doing it in a way that has made fans out of readers of all ages. Few were more respected or deserving of that respect as Nick Cafardo.
There will be a noticeable absence in Boston media without him.
