Brandon Spikes Coming In Hot With An Epic Tom Brady Story

It’s the week before the week before the Super Bowl, so we’re grasping for stories here. In the same vein of anyone who has been in a room with Sean McVay gets a head coaching job, now is the biggest time of year to get a quote from anyone who has ever met Tom Brady.

The most recent is former Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes. Patriots nation has some fond memories of Spikes, including these 2 in particular:

Sports Illustrated’s Robert Klemko was interviewing Spikes “about his career” this week which was an interesting move the week before the Super Bowl for a player who hasn’t played since 2016 but I’m glad he did because this Tom Brady Pro Bowl quote is pure gold.

“I had one of my best years my third season,” Spikes said. “I’d been playing off the charts. And I didn’t get picked to go to the Pro Bowl. I was moping around, actually in tears, and a few guys were trying to lift me up, like, ‘It’s gonna be alright man. We’ve got to worry about what’s in front of us.’ Then The Pharaoh himself walks up to me—I used to call Brady The Pharoah and he hated that—Brady walks up to me and says, ‘Hey B, you think I play this s— to go to Pro Bowls? Get it together. Get your head up. We’re trying to win rings. That’s what it is here.’ That’s where I knew what kind of environment I was in, how blessed I was.” –SI.com

I’m just imagining Tom Brady getting wind of a player crying about not making the Pro Bowl. He probably was shocked they even still do the Pro Bowl. That’s Super Bowl prep week for the Pats. I mean maybe if it was in Hawaii and he’s bummed he doesn’t get a free trip but it’s probably nicer in February anyways.

This story is exactly why players like Brandon Spikes don’t end up lasting in this locker room. You care about Pro Bowls? Individual stats and accomplishments? We’ll cut you the night before the Super Bowl because we don’t give a fuck about anything besides winning.
