Football Friday: Shamrock Series!

This Saturday 8-2 #12 Syracuse faces 10-0 #3 Notre Dame.

At…

Yankee Stadium. And it is a home game for Notre Dame.

Welcome to the 9th installment of the Shamrock Series, and the second time the game has been played at Yankee Stadium. The Irish played Army there in 2010.

The game brings an Irish “home game” away from South Bend, but ND is an American tradition so almost anywhere can be a home game for the boys in Gold and Blue.

The Shamrock Series was last played in 2016 at the Alamodome when the Irish defeated Army. The team is 8-0 all time in Shamrock Series Games. The series has also been played at AT&T Stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium, Soldier Field, Fenway Park and Fedex Field.

This year the Irish are facing a very tough Syracuse team. A team that can put up major points and have a QB that can sling it and run it. Oh and are a team that would LOVE to spoil the Irish’s dreams of the College Football Playoff.

In the house that Ruth Built. (Well kinda)

With this game also come special Notre Dame Jersey’s. Each year the jersey has a special meaning, like when they played Army. This season they will be in Yankee inspired, pinstripe jerseys and helmets.

I am a diehard Irish fan, as well as a diehard Yankee fan. So I love the idea of them playing in the Bronx. However I don’t love them not wearing their traditional gold helmets.

Notre Dame is coming off a huge senior night victory over Florida State. The Orange are also coming off a big win against Louisville.

The Irish get their starting QB Ian Book back this week, after he missed last week with a rib injury. They will look to continue their success on the ground with Dexter Williams and the boys this week against Cuse.

To win the game, the Irish Defense will need to contain Dungy in the pocket. If the Orange QB gets his legs going coach Kelly’s team could be in trouble. They will lean on their linebackers Drue Tranquil and Tavon Coney again, as always.

The line is currently sitting at -10.5 in favor of the Irish. A line that I think is way too big. I think it’s going to be a close, hard fraught game that could even come down to a late field goal.

I will be in the building wearing my green. and supporting this special Irish team. I get to check off another bucket list item, attending a Shamrock Series Game. Look out for my live video content from the Bronx.

GO IRISH!! BEAT orange! Keep this season rollin!
