Source – Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s $60 million mansion was unscathed in the devastating California wildfires – thanks to a private team of firefighters they hired to battle the blazes. The power couple is being praised by neighbors in their Hidden Hills neighborhood for shelling out for a squad of smoke-eaters who dug trenches in order to keep the inferno at bay, TMZ reported Monday.
The couple’s manse is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac adjacent to a field and could have threatened the rest of the block had it gone up in flames.
Neighbors told TMZ that Kardashian and West saved their homes.
The couple were among many celebrities who were forced to evacuate their homes.“Just landed back home and had 1 hour to pack up & evacuate our home. I pray everyone is safe,” she wrote on Instagram after documenting the fires from a private plane.
OK, I guess their not complete assholes for saving just their home. It was very kind of them to help other wealthy neighbors with multi-million dollar homes. I’m not going to bash them (too much) because they have the money to do it. If I had a couple million, I’d pull this power move and do whatever it took to save my home. I’d also donate a couple hundred grand to aid rescuers and those who lost their homes, but I don’t have that kind of money (unlike the Kardashians), I’m a simple man.
No matter whose house it is, multi-million to a shack, it’s terrible to lose your home. God forbid family members or pets. For those, without this type of service, are at the mercy of the winds and availability of firefighters. I hope everyone effected by the wildfires stay safe. You can replace a home, not a life.
Also, it’s pretty nuts insurance companies offer firefighting services.
According to NBC, Members of AIG’s Risk Management and Loss Prevention policy group, who qualify for Wildfire Protection Unit services, occupy 42 percent of the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans.
Wildfire mitigation is largely encouraged by coalitions of insurance companies. PURE, an insurance company that lets high-paying clients tap into the resources of Pure’s Group of Insurance Companies (including AIG), offers a Wildfire MItigation Programfor residents in 11 wildfire-prone states, including California. The service, which is offered as part of a client’s regular insurance payment, includes proactive fire risk consultations and the installation of sprinklers and application fire retardants.
Similarly, The National Association of Insurance Commissioners created the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which essentially involves assessing different neighborhoods for their risk of wildfires so that insurance companies can act accordingly. The association also outlines possibilities of wildfire insurance arranged in tiers of most coverage to least coverage.
Just how big is this industry? For perspective, the National Wildfire Suppression Association represents 150 wildfire contract service companies with more than 10,000 employees. It can cost in excess of $100,000 just to enter the field of private firefighting work, meaning individual missions can cost insurance companies tens of thousands of dollarsAccording to NBC, Members of AIG’s Risk Management and Loss Prevention policy group, who qualify for Wildfire Protection Unit services, occupy 42 percent of the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans.
