Source – A member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has introduced a bill to legalize recreational marijuana.
Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, announced the comprehensive legislation covering recreational use and possession of marijuana at a press conference on Monday.
“My bill would immediately release people jailed for crimes associated with cannabis,” Wheatley said. “Those who have criminal histories related to cannabis would be expunged, and professional and driver’s licenses that were revoked or suspended due to cannabis-related crimes would be reinstated. For far too long, the criminal justice system has unfairly punished Pennsylvanians, especially minorities, who are caught with cannabis.”
Nine states and the District of Columbia currently permit recreational use of marijuana. Pennsylvania, which legalized medical marijuana in 2016, is currently rolling out and expanding the program across the state.
The bill introduced by Wheatley would not allow for public use of marijuana or driving under its influence.
Potheads everywhere right now
I’m not opposed to this at all, I would like to legally try some wacky tobacky. I think it would be great for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A lot of PA cities have decriminalized marijuana. So instead of getting thrown in jail, you get a citation and sent on your way without Mary Jane. In 2016, Pa legalized medical marijuana, since then they’ve expanded the uses for, and types, of marijuana.
Pa residents, 21 and older, would be able to use, purchase, and grow their own buds. Can you imagine walking into your yard with sweet stinky weed growing right next to your tomatoes. Hope your dog doesn’t get into it!
I hope it goes through, not only would it benefit the consumers, it would benefit PA. Apparently, if this goes through, PA would bring over $580 million in tax revenue. Win for the residents and a win for PA’s pocketbook.
Remember the rules; puff, puff, pass.
