Just Win Baby…

Last Saturday night the Irish went to beautiful San Diego to take on the Navy Midshipmen. The 92nd year in a row the two teams have played.

However there was even more at stake for Notre Dame this time around. They were sitting at 7-0, ranked #3 in the AP Poll with a legit chance to win out and make the College Football Playoff.

The Irish always look fresh in their away whites. They took control of the game early (after their fumble on the first play of the game that is.) And, even though they didn’t cover the 24.5 point spread… The game was never in doubt.

Ian Book once again led the team to a victory, going 27-33 for 330 yards 2 TD’s and 1 INT. Dexter “Juice” Williams exploded on the ground once more, having 23 rushes for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns. The offense was humming.

The score was 27-0 at halftime. I don’t want to say the Irish let up in the second half but they… “let Navy back into the game” sorta.

We are all living in Coney’s World. As he added another 14 tackles…

The final would be 44-22 and the Irish would move to 8-0.

The one scary moment of the game was when captain and do it all Linebacker Drue Tranquil was carted off the field. Irish Nation held its collective breath.

“Is that his season!? Oh crap we are done. That’s a knee. I can’t believe it.”

But… It turned out to be a high ankle sprain. Not great but not the worst, and we all know Drue is tough as nails and will be there when the team needs him.

Now… Just keep winning baby. The Irish came out of the first Playoff Rankings at #4. Behind Alabama, Clemson and LSU. Bama and LSU play this weekend so one will add an L. Win again and the Irish will move up.

Four games left to finish the season undefeated and a chance to play for a a championship. Northwestern, Florida State, Syracuse and USC stand in their way.

They have to take each game one at a time and not overlook any of those opponents. They will be playing another night game Saturday against a tough 5-3 Northwestern team on the road. The Irish are a 9.5 point favorite but…

Keep this season alive. This has been the most fun season in my 31 years of Notre Dame Fan life… I don’t want it to end.
