As a Phillies fan who knows that this offseason has two big time names, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, this gives me a little pause. I’m a billion % in on Harper. Give him anything he wants. People don’t like his “bro-ness” I can’t get enough of it. If the Phillies do sign Harper I want them to update the uniforms to cut off jerseys and bandannas.
I was also all in on Machado too. Now……ehhhhhhh, not sure. He’s been crushed this season for not running out ground balls but to be honest I don’t really care. Stand at the plate and crush dingers, that’s what we’ll pay you for. Jimmy Rollins didn’t hustle all the time either and he was loved in this city. Philly needs to stop loving the hard working second class players and accept real talent can come with a little bit of baggage.
With that being said, this is a scumbag move. Big time. Dallas Braden is right, no way he doesn’t see his foot there. He clear as day looks down. He knew what he was doing and what he was doing was being a piece of shit. Not to beat my Philadelphia fans to death again but imagine if someone did this to Ryan Howard in 08 or 09. We’d kill him. Like actually kill him. So I’m torn here because he seems like someone I’ve been conditioned to hate BUT I also love a good villain.
Phillies could sign Manny and this could be his new shtick. Hit monster homers and beat the shit out of the other team. Give him a Phantom of The Opera mask and before games he sneaks around Citizans Bank Park going all Tonya Harding on the other team’s best players. That is a home field advantage no one can match. I think I’m starting to sell myself on this idea. Just Manny being Manny. Worked in Boston where everyone is openly racist and throws beers on other team’s players. Why can’t it work in Philly?
