Public Service Announcement: If you’re not watching Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, get an Amazon Prime account and watch it STAT.
It’s been awhile since I’ve had a series take over my life and Jack Ryan did just that. My lady and I binge-watched the last four episodes last night and damn, this series did not disappoint. You want a show with crazy plot twists, legit acting and scream-at-your-TV action? Look no further.
Admittedly, I was skeptical at first. Our favorite guy from The Office, John Krasinski, playing one of the most iconic action heroes of all time? Sure, we’ve seen 13 Hours and A Quiet Place – but I just wasn’t sure. Damn, was I fucking wrong.
I’ll just say it: John Krasinski is the Jack Ryan we’ve always wanted. Harrison Ford? Eh. Alec Baldwin? Nope. Ben Affleck? No. Chris Pine? NAH. Johnny Boy took that Jeff Bezos money and cashed in an all-time performance.
But, Krasinski wasn’t the only actor who brought their A-game. My two favorite characters by far were James Greer, played by Wendell Pierce and Hanin, played by Dina Shihabi. Greer uses the word “fuck” better than any character I’ve ever seen and constantly drops straight-up knowledge on his growing prodigy, Jack.
And I don’t want to give away too much about Hanin…if you watch, you’ll see why she’s one of my faves. Let’s just say…she’s a problem solver.
Double shout out to Ali Suliman as Suleiman and Abbie Cornish as Dr. Cathy Mueller, who both turned in awesome portrayals of their respective characters. I hope to see both of them in even more shows and movies. Get on that shit, Hollywood.
As I said, the plot has insane twists and turns – but, it also pays attention to the little details. There were many points where the scenes felt so real and hit home hard – these writers did their homework – and then some. Add in that the series takes place in today’s setting with real issues like ISIS, the Syrian refugee crisis and modern warfare in the background – you learn a lot from this show, too.
American Flag Score Scale: On a scale of 1 to 50 stars, Jack Ryan gets 51 – this series made Puerto Rico a state, it was so good.
Bottom line: Be a goddamn American and watch Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan NOW.
