The Bruins Trade Away One Tough Hombre in Adam McQuaid

Hockey season is right around the corner, but with the beginning for football season and the looming MLB playoffs you kind of forget how close it is. The Bruins pulled off a trade Tuesday that both reminded us how soon until the B’s are back and brought a single tear to the face of many fans.

Adam “One tough hombre” McQuaid is off to New York.

My gut reaction is this sucks. McQuaid has brought so much to this team physically and as a voice in the locker room and although he was here in 2011 to get a ring, it would’ve been nice to see him get another with the B’s with this new young roster. He did and would’ve continued to be a great mouthpiece in the locker room.

It also doesn’t help that we’re getting back Steven Kampfer who was a failed project of the Bruins when he was drafted by Boston seven years ago.

With all of that being said, logically this is a good trade. The Bruins come out of it with two draft picks and another body to replace McQuaid in the meantime on the last defensive line, need be. On top of that, McQuaid is as injury-ridden as they come and although not overly expensive, he probably has been slightly over paid in the last few seasons in Boston.

Aside from Chara, the old defensive guard is officially gone. It’s the young guys team on the back end now and guys like Krug and McAvoy  are going to control the defense.

I can’t wait to see it.

Goodbye McQuaid, you and your mullet (which he should still bring back) will not be forgotten.
