This past weekend was the beginning of the season for the Premier League. I have had some interest in soccer because of the awesome game FIFA, but never really understood the leagues. After the latest world cup, I have invested some time in looking at what the soccer scene is all about in Europe. I thought that all of the teams in Europe were in the same league, much like every American sport. NOPE, all countries have their own leagues and many countries have multiple leagues.
I went out with some friends to watch the Manchester City vs. Arsenal match at 11:00 am at a bar in Philly. Yes, if you are looking for a good reason to start drinking early, become a soccer fan. There are local bars all over that open early waiting to slide you pints of ale while viewing the European excitement. While at the bar, I started listening to the other people talk and realized I didn’t know SHIT about the Premier League. Them talking about Euros, Champions Leagues, and loans, my head was spinning. It all sounded so awesome and I wanted to be a part of it.
I have never played soccer in my life but I have a very strong appreciation for it and I am now an AVID fan of Manchester City. I downloaded an app where I can follow the team and players. I bought a jersey already. You may be asking how I came about settling down with Man City as my team. Well, it’s easy. They won the championship last year and won the first premier league game I watched live. So, Man City is my team, and their jerseys are so fire! Also, I took an online quiz, almost like a personality quiz that helped me choose a team. My loyalty will never be broken.

The Premier League games usually play Saturday and Sunday mornings which is great because all of us during the American Football season are twiddling our thumbs waiting for 1 pm EST to start our couch flattening. Now, I (we) can get up at the butt crack of dawn, head to a local pub and watch live sports for 16 hours straight!
Here’s a short list of items that make the Premier League awesome:
- They can just buy whatever player they want if they have enough money.
- Top 6 teams qualify for the champions league.
- Fan sections are separated due to violence.
- Bottom 3 teams drop down to the lower league.
- It’s cool to wear scarfs.
- Gives you a reason to go to a bar at 8:30 am.
- No commercials.
- The league logo is a lion wearing a crown.
Join the movement and start following the Premier League.
Let’s go Man City!
